My taste in music is all over the board. If you find something you like here, let me know by sending me a comment. If you want to share your tastes with me, let me know that, too, as I always love to hear new stuff.
In no particular order:
Amos Lee - alternative, sort of like a guy version of Norah Jones
Alison Krauss - countryish
Annie Lennox - she’s so hot and I love her other-wordly voice
The B-52s - how can you not like them? Rock LOBSTER!
Barlow Girl - a girly Christian group who have some awesome songs of pain and hope
Bebo Norman - a Christian artist, very talented who I had the privilege of hearing as he led the worship at a Young LIfe camp. All my high school girls were talking: “Bebo, Bebo, Bebo” all the way home.
Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Black Eyed Peas (and Fergie, sometimes) - but watch out for some bad lyrics.
Bob Marley - perfect for a boat ride at the lake
Casting Crowns - great worship band
Colbie Callait - she makes me smile
Coldplay - I LOVE them, and they’re great in concert!
Dave Matthews - who DOESN’T like Dave? And then to see him in “Because of Winn Dixie” made him even more likeable.
Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body is one of my fav songs
Enya
Eva Cassidy
Evanescence
Feist
The Fray
George Winston - piano man
Goo Goo Dolls
Gwen Stefani - sometimes
Indigo Girls
Ingrid Michaelson - the song, “All you can do is keep breathing…” saw me through some of my most painful situations in life… when breathing was all I felt I could do. And she sings it over and over just to remind you to keep breathing.
INXS
Jack Johnson - fun concert, but after a while his songs all start to sound the same
James Blunt
Jars of Clay
Jeremy Camp - first heard his music at our church, he’s awesome live and his lyrics are right on
Jewel
Jimmy Buffett
Johnny Cash
Jon McLaughlin - fellow AU grad, although I graduated a few years earlier
Josh Groban
Kate Havenik
Kate Bush - too much Kate gets too annoying
Keith Urban - this is about as country as I’m going to get
The Killers
Kimya Dawson - funny and weird; if you liked Juno, you’ll like her music… it’s sort of whack like Juno
KT Tunstall
Lenny Kravitz
Mat Kearney
Mercy Me
Natalie Merchant
Nicole Nordeman
Norah Jones - mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm. Norah, some candlelight and a nice little dance with my honey
Penny Rodrigue - she’s has an amazing talent for writing music and playing piano; I especially love her Christmas albums
Plumb - hauntingly beautiful
R.E.M. - One of my all time favorite bands. Have seen them several times in concert. Each time is different
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rusted Root
The Samples - almost saw them at the Patio, but if I tell the story I might get mad at my husband all over again, so let’s just say I like them a lot.
Sara Groves - she has such a pure sound, such real lyrics and a great personality to boot
Sarah McLachlan
Santana
Sheryl Crow
Simon and Garfunkel
Sixpence None the Richer
Snow Patrol - one of my favorites and so fun to see in concert outdoors. “If I lay here, will you lie with me and just forget the world…”
Starfield - great worship
Steve Miller Band - classic
Superchick
Switchfoot
Third Day - Mac’s voice ROCKS. Probably my fav Christian band
Tom Prible - his new album, Mountains, is so nice - plus, he’s just a really great guy.
Tracy Chapman
U2 - the world’s best band - EVER!
The Wreckers
10,000 Maniacs
1,000 Generations
Then there are the mix albums from Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C. which are worth checking out as well. I also like a song or two from these bands: Plain White T’s, Panic at the Disco, Amy Winehouse, Fall Out Boy, Howie Day, Tegan and Sara, Usher….
The 80s alternative bands are some of my favorites as well:
UB40
The Smiths
The Smithereens
New Order
Squeeze
Elvis Costello
Modern English
Violent Femmes
Edie Brickell
The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Pretenders - although they’re pretty classic
The Replacements
Dead Kennedys
Depeche Mode
Oingo Boingo
Echo and the Bunnymen
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Psychedelic Furs
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Oh how this brings up memories…. Have fun checking some of these out!
